Senate confirms Dr Farouk as PenCom full time Commissioner

Dr Umaru Farouk Aminu who was recently nominated by President Buhari as a Full-Time Commissioner representing the North West Geopolitical Zone in the National Pension Commission (PenCom) has now been confirmed by Senate. His confirmation was disclosed at the senate plenary session on Tuesday 08 December 2020 after Senate considered the report of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters on the confirmation of the Nomination of Dr Farouk.

Senate resolves to the Committee of the Whole to consider the report of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters on the Confirmation of the Nomination of Umaru Farouk Aminu for Appointment as Full-time Commissioner representing the North-West Geopolitical Zone in the National Pension Commission.

The Nomination of Umaru Farouk Aminu is CONFIRMED as Full-time Commissioner representing the North-West Geopolitical Zone in the National Pension Commission.

Brief Biography of Dr Farouk

Umaru Farouk Aminu joined the National Pension Commission (PenCom) in August 2005 after spending 14 years in classroom, where he taught Mathematics, Computing and Operations Research. He was engaged on special National Assignment to establish the pension industry in Nigeria after serving, on advisory capacity, during the period of legislative process on the pension reform bill by the National Assembly in 2004.

He served on the Committee that reviewed the National Strategy on Public Service Reforms, the Technical Committee for the implementation of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy and he served as a member of the Program Monitoring Office of the National Financial Sector Strategy 2020.

Dr. Aminu has a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, a postgraduate diploma in Computer Science and a PhD in Management Science (Operations Research). He has been the Head of Research & Strategy Management Department of the National Pension Commission from 2005 to date and had written and spoken extensively on the Nigerian pension reforms and the Contributory Pension Scheme at various fora.
