Retiree collapses as Pensioners in Kano State Protest Non Payment of Retirement Benefit

Pensioners in Kano state on Thursday staged a protest in front of the state government house over non-payment of their retirement benefits.

The pensioners were holding the peaceful protest in the state to draw the attention of the authorities to their plight, when one of them collapsed. The pensioners had marched from the Emir’s House in Nassarawa to the state government house.

Speaking at the protest, Chairman of Kano State Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kabiru Ado Minjibir, called on the attention of the state governor.

He said, “We are calling on organisations, which include Ministry for Local Government, SUBEB, SPHCMB, Water Board and Housing Corperation to fully comply with the provisions of section 7(1) a & b, (2), (3) and 8 a,b,c,d of the Kano State Pension and Gratuity Law No.1 of 2007) 1427 A.H by remitting the full employers 17% contributions to the Pension Fund Trustees henceforth as complied and remitted by the mainstream Civil Service, under the office of the Head of Civil Service and some Parastatals, such as Judiciary”.

The state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje represented by his Chief of Staff and Head of Service, Usman Bala who received the pensioners pledged the government’s quick intervention on the issue.
