Public Hearing on Bills to Review Pension Reform Act 2014, a compilation of all our Posts

House of Representative Committee on Pensions recently held a Public Hearing on two (2) Bills to review the Pension Reform Act 2014, we have complied all related post to the event here to ensure you don’t miss anything.

The event was held on Tuesday, 22nd February 2022, at the Conference Room 231, House of Representatives new building National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The two bills discussed at the public hearing are,

The first Bill, “A Bill for an Act to amend the Pension Reform Act 2014 to provide for the exemption of the Nigerian Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme and for related matters [HB. 1578] was sponsored by Hon. Francis Ejiroghene Waive.

The second Bill, “A Bill for an Act to amend Sections 1 (c), 7(2), 8(1), 18, 24 and 99 of the Pension Reform Act cap P50 LFN 2014 providing that a pensioner shall receive at least 75% of his retirement benefits immediately upon retirement and criminalise the undue delay in the payment of pension [HB. 1008]” sponsored by Hon. Jimoh Aremu Olaifa.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, represented by Deputy House Leader, Peter Akpatason, said that the two bills would effect the needed intervention. He said that critical intervention of the legislature in the pension reform bill would better the lives of retirees.

Rep. Kabiru Alhassan, Chairman, House Committee on Pension, explained that the inputs of the stakeholders would guide the house in improving the living conditions of senior citizens in the country. He said that they would not fall ignorance of the stress and delay retirees experience before accessing their benefits after serving the nation for years.
