PTAD Hosts U.N. Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of All Human Rights by Older Persons & Other Relevant Stakeholders

The Executive Secretary of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Dr. Chioma Ejikeme on Tuesday August 30, 2022 hosted Ms. Claudia Mahler, the United Nations Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of All Human Rights by Older Persons and other relevant stakeholders in the Management of Pensioners and Older persons.

Ms. Mahler is in Nigeria to discuss with Federal, State, Local governments as well as representatives of Civil Society, Media and Others handling social issues as it relates to her mandate of looking for new systems and laws to provide for the needs of older persons. This she explained will further inform the Global Community appropriately on the efforts and achievements of various agencies of Government in Nigeria in providing for the future of older persons including PTAD.

Principal stakeholders at the meeting include the Chairman, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages commission, Mr. Ekpo Nta, the Director General, National Senior Citizen Centre, Dr. Emem Omokaro, representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well PTAD senior management.

A presentation by the Director Pensioner Support Services Department, Mrs Nneka Obiamalu gave a timeline of how PTAD’s intervention in the management and administration of Defined Benefit Scheme has changed the narrative and uplifted Pensioners welfare and dignity.
