Plateau LG to settle N141 million Staff Salary & Pension Arrears

Mangu Local Government Council of Plateau State to settle N141 million salary and pension arrears of staff and pensioners from February 2018 to June 2020. The Executive Chairman of the council, Mr. Danat Lawrence, made the pledge during an interview with journalists in Mangu today.

Danat said that the liabilities totaling N141 million, which would be paid next week, included N133 million pending salaries of teachers and health workers (nurses and midwives) and N18 million pension. He said that meetings had been held with the leadership of the different workers’ unions in the council area and modalities had been agreed upon for settlement of the debt.

He said, “This decision came as a result of an agreement reached with a contractor who had garnisheed the Local Government salary account with Zenith Bank Plc. The agreement followed an out of Court settlement we recently had with the contractor. With this development, the bank is ready to release the February, 2018 statutory allocation from the federation account belonging to the Council for onward payment of the salary arrears before the end of next week.”

Garnishee is a court order for collecting a monetary judgment on behalf of a plaintiff from an institution or person holding money on behalf of the defendant in the suit.
