PFCs are responsible for keeping safe custody of pension assets on trust on behalf of contributors. They are the Banks for the PFAs. We have updated our post on the things you should know about PFCs to reflect new appointments in the industry HERE

Pension schemes in the private sector existing prior to the introduction of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in June, 2004 were allowed to continue as Closed Pension Fund Administrators (CPFAs), subject to guidelines issued by PenCom.
