PenCom Extends Online Enrolment Exercise, says only those who enrol will be paid

The National Pensions Commission (PenCom) has disclosed that only pensioners who have completed online registration will receive the payment and advised those who have not yet registered online to do so as it is an important prerequisite.

PenCom’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Peter Aghahowa, confirmed this to the Nigerian News Agency on Tuesday.

“For those who have signed up, your payment has now been processed and payment will begin soon. Online enrollment has been around for a long time and is a basic criteria for all retirees to complete,” said Aghahowa.

He said that any payments made will be based on those who have completed the online registration.

“This is a transition period from manual to automatic enrollment and the commission has made efforts to inform retirees, retirees are encouraged to enroll online.”

He exhorted registered pensioners to be patient, saying the commission works assiduously to pay them.

PenCom, in September 2021, had advised employees of the Federal Government’s Treasury-funded Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA), who retired between January and August 2021, to register online for their annual exercise of pre-retirement verification.

PenCom also extended the advice to employees of Federal Government Treasury-funded MDAs set to retire beginning in September 2021 and to those who missed enrollment exercises in prior years.

PenCom management pointed out that the verification and affiliation must be done with their respective Pension Fund Administrators (AFP) before October 29, 2021.

He explained that those interested have membership options, such as self-assisted and Pension Desk Officer (PDO)/PFA-Assisted.

He advised 2021 retirees/potential retirees to visit the PenCom website to start the online enrollment process.

According to PenCom, self-help captures employment details and uploads scanned copies of required documents before proceeding to the respective PFA for physical verification and enrollment.

Aghahowa said the online enrollment application went live on September 1, 2021, and retirees and prospective retirees were given a deadline of October 29, 2021 to complete the enrollment process, which was later extended until December 31, 2021.

“However, enrollment is still ongoing.”

He explained that only employees of Federal Government Treasury-funded MDAs are eligible to participate in the 2021 online enrollment and verification exercise.

“Employees who retired from January to October 2021, employees who retired from November to December 2021, and retirees who missed previous enrollment exercises from 2007 to 2019.

“Self-Assisted Registration; affected retirees/potential retirees should visit the PenCom website www.pencom.gov.ng to start the online registration process and capture their employment details.

“In addition, they must upload scanned copies of the required documents before proceeding to their respective Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) for physical verification and enrollment,” Aghahowa said.

He said, for PDO assisted registration, retirees and future retirees, who are unable to complete their registration online can approach their respective MDA’s PDOs or visit their PFAs for assistance.

Recall that on December 29, the Federal Government approved the release of funds for the payment of pension rights accumulated under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). FG released N16.67 billion for the payment of accrued pension rights to 2021 retirees from Treasury-funded Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). In addition, FG had previously settled all arrears of pension rights payments accrued to verified and registered retirees up to December 2020.
