PenCom Commences Pilot Run of Online Enrolment Application

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has announced the commencement of the online Verification and Enrolment Exercise for 2021 retirees and prospective retirees of treasury-funded Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs). This follows the development of the online Enrolment Application, which has capabilities to register, verify and enroll prospective retirees.

The Online Enrolment and Verification exercise is scheduled to commence on 1st September, 2021. All retirees and prospective retirees for the year 2021 are required to complete the verification and enrolment latest by 29th October, 2021, to enable the computation of their accrued pension rights for their previous active service up to June 2004 when the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) commenced.

Eligibility for the 2021 Verification and Enrolment Exercise:

Retirees/prospective retirees eligible to participate in the exercise include employees of Federal Government treasury-funded MDAs who retired between January and August 2021; employees of Federal Government treasury-funded MDAs who are due to retire from September and employees of Federal Government treasury funded MDAs who missed the enrolment exercises in previous years.

Prior to participation in the exercise, the prospective retirees and retirees are required to undergo the data recapturing exercise with their respective Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs). This entails updating their personal details and providing the National Identity Number (NIN). Prospective retirees who have already undergone the data recapture are not required to repeat the exercise but should proceed with the online enrolment. The online verification and enrolment exercise require prospective retirees to undergo three stages including, Registration; Verification; and Enrolment.

The Registration Stage:

There are two registration/enrolment options: The Self-Assisted and the Pension Fund Administrator (PFA)/Pension Desk Officers (PDO) assisted registration. Under the self-assisted option, retirees/prospective retirees for the year 2021 are required to visit PenCom’s website www.pencom.gov.ng to initiate the online enrolment process. This is done by registering and capturing their employment details as well as uploading scanned copies of the required documents before proceeding to their respective PFA for physical verification and enrolment. The step-by-step procedure for the Online Enrolment is available on the PenCom website. On the other hand, retirees/prospective retirees who are unable to complete the online registration for any reason could approach the PDO of their respective MDAs or visit their PFA for assistance.

The Verification Stage:

The prospective retiree is required to visit the PFA’s nearest office for the verification stage. The essence of verification is to validate the documents uploaded by the prospective retiree. The PFAs would therefore, sight the originals or Certified True Copies (CTC) of the documents uploaded by the prospective retiree and only collect the originals of Records of Service and the MDA’s Introduction Letter.

The Enrolment Stage:

Consequent upon a successful verification, the PFA shall capture a live photo of the prospective retiree for enrolment on the Application. Thereafter, the PFA shall print two copies of the Registration Slip, for the prospective retiree to sign and be counter signed by the Enrolment Officer. The signed copy is to be scanned and uploaded onto the Enrolment Application while a copy would be given to the retiree/prospective retiree. It is important for the affected retirees/prospective retirees to ensure that they complete the online Verification and Enrolment exercise by 29th October, 2021, as directed by PenCom. This will ensure the speedy processing of their retirement benefits.
