FCTA Approves N512m Arrears For Retirees
Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has disclosed that it has approved the sum of N512 million for payment of retirement benefits to 132 retiring and deceased officers of the six area councils and Local Education Authorities (LEAs), including accrued rights and death benefits for personnel, who retired or died before the COVID-19 lockdown.
This was disclosed by the Director of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Staff Pension Board (ACSPB), Dr. Nanzing Nden, in Abuja.
He added that the approval is not part of the recent N6.1billion paid by the administration to defray liabilities and entitlements to retirees of both the area councils and LEAs within the last four years, in which a total of 1,464 persons benefited from the payments.
He confirmed that the N512 million was verified and presented to the FCT minister of state, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, who graciously approved the payment, adding that the amount is being processed through the treasury department to the beneficiaries’ Pension Fund Administrators’ account.
He further disclosed that as at the time he took over, the board had a pension liability of N3.9 billion unpaid pension and accrued rights benefit, but they have been able to clear the liability and improve on payment to pensioners.
