Edo Govt assures improved Welfare for Pensioners

The Edo State Government has said it will continue to prioritise the welfare of pensioners in the state, pledging to sustain efforts to enhance the living standards of the senior citizens.

The Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq, gave the assurance during a meeting with the leadership of the Edo State Pensioners’ Union, at the Government House, in Benin City.

Okungbowa said the state government places priority on the welfare of pensioners and will sustain projects and programmes to transform all critical sectors of the state’s economy.

He said Governor Godwin Obaseki, as part of his commitment to the welfare of the pensioners, has paved the way for the sequential phased payment of outstanding arrears of pensions and approved the implementation of the harmonized payment of pensions to all categories of retirees in the state.

The Head of Service said, “The government appreciates the invaluable services the retirees rendered to the state while in active service and is putting the needed measures in place to ensure that in no distant time, the issue of gratuity will be laid to rest.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, (NUP) Edo State Chapter, Comrade Pullen Noruwa, thanked the state government for constantly prioritizing the welfare of the retirees, ensuring that their pensions are paid as and when due.
