EFCC to declare a Police Pension Fraud Convict, John Yusuf, Wanted for Evading Prison

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may declare a pension fraud convict, John Yusuf, wanted for evading prison after the Court of Appeal, Abuja division, sentenced him for 2 years and fines him N22.9bn for pension fraud.

John Yusuf in 2013 was sentence to an aggregate fine of N750,000 by a Federal Capital Territory High Court presided over by Justice Abubakar Talba for stealing around N24 billion police pension fund.

The judgement sparked national and international outrage and EFCC also appealed against the judgement and in 2018 EFCC won the case and John Yusust was sentenced to 2 years and fine of N22.9bn for the Pension Fraud.

There are reports that John Yusuf has been living as a free man since March 2018, instead of serving his jail term as ordered by the court and there is also no way to ascertain whether he has refunded the money as ordered by the court.

EFCC is expected to get a court order to issue a warrant of arrest which would mandate every law enforcement agency to arrest him wherever he is found and return him to prison to serve his term.
