ICAN President Seeks continued Dialogue Between Professionals and Govt.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has called on professionals in the country to continue to dialogue with government at all levels to ensure sustainable development of the country.

ICAN President Mazi Nnamdi Okwuadigbo, FCA, who made the call in Abeokuta, Ogun State recently said effective collaboration between professionals and government would accelerate economic progress.

He noted that it was the responsibility of government to ensure the creation of an enabling environment for citizens’ potentials to be maximized but pointed out that professional groups have a key role to play in this, which explains why ICAN believes strongly on regular dialogue.

“The accounting profession, as the conscience of society, is strategically positioned to collaborate with the various arms of government to achieve the national desire for inclusive, sustainable growth and development”, he said.

Mazi Okwudigbo, who was speaking when he paid a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Government House Abeokuta said the spirit of collaboration was the reason ICAN came out with a number of initiatives to support government’s efforts at State and Federal levels.

He recalled that in 2015, the Institute “launched a N50 million Whistle blower’s Fund to protect and compensate members (whether in public or private practices) who may be victimized for reporting any form of financial misdemeanor in their organizations”, an initiative that has since been endorsed and adopted by the Federal Government with great successes.
