Accountants Charged to Lead New Strategic Focus for Business – ICAN
Professional accountants have been charged to lead a new strategic focus for business and the economy to enhance growth and development. Giving this charge at the 14th Western Zonal Districts Accountants’ Conference in Ilaro, Ogun State, recently Alhaji Isiaka Bello FCA, a member of the Institute and Chief Finance Officer of Dangote Agrosacks Limited, said the new strategic focus would “identify, connect, integrate and assist value creation”.
Speaking on the topic “Professional Accountants: Catalysts for Business Strategy and Economic Development”, Mr. Adeleke said the strategic shift would also help “drive efficiency, provide credibility and communication” in the new economy driven by technology. He implored professional accountants to concentrate more on value addition rather than spending much effort on the basics of accounting.
He explained that with the right business insights professional accountants were in the position to lead the development of the right strategy for both the private and public institutions since their skills are helpful in tackling issues that are militating against economic development.
The accountants’ areas of influence, according to him include, inflation control, employment generation, sustainable growth, access to cheap business finance, technology transfer and real estate development, among others.
Also speaking at the conference, Human Resources Consultant, Mr. Steve Olayinka said trust was a “key component of society which all stakeholders must embrace. He described it as a key component of ease of doing business, and important asset for any business to grow”. He implored professional accountants to leverage various social media platforms to enhance partnership and increase brand awareness among others.
Speaking on “Creating Connections, Building Bridges, Expanding Possibilities for Professional Accountants”, Dr. Seyi Olanrewaju implored accountants to build networks to aid success. The areas where professional accountants could create connections, according to him include “professional networking, collaborations, association engagements, alma mater, friends and families, social clubs, among others.
